This mammoth tooth was from the maxilla or upper palate. This tooth has a fantastic representation of the dentine and enamel layers.
A mammoth generally went through 5 sets of molars, the first molars were about the size of those of a human, around 0.51 inches, the third set were about 6 inches long, and the fifth were about 12 inches long. The molars grew larger with each replacement.
This mammoth tooth was probably from the 3rd set.
